I've been wanting to write about this guy for a long, long time, because I find his story incredible. Every time I hear it, I think about the power of Redemption. I think most guys have a man-crush on this dude-- he's that freakin' awesome. Disney needs to make a movie about him. And yes, he's on all three of my fantasy teams, so my man-crush is extra deep.
Hi blog community and friends, I would normal send out the obligatory email blast (that will come later, haha), but I think I'll test the waters through this here community. I'm a bit hesitant to finally share what I've been doing in my spare time, especially because I have nightmares of people saying, "dude, that sucks" to my face. (I'm actually serious about this nightmare. I guess that's why I had to marry someone super supportive-- to counter all my inadequacies.) So now, I've finally gotten to the point where I actually feel a bit proud of the work we did. As I sit here writing on my newly-acquired Aeron chair, I'll share with you what I've been working on...
As some of you might know, I've been working on a startup, Vergence Media, with several people and two years later, we're still around! It's been a crazy past year, but we actually have paid clients now. Yeah, believe it or not, people pay us for our work. It's a weird feeling. First off, I want to thank some of the first "testers" who gave us initial feedback. You know who you are. We still have a lot of room to grow, but we can finally tell the rest of our friends about it! That's you!
In short, our startup's product is patented (yep, we have a patent) Free Form Rotation technology. Think Quicktime VR without the limitations of using a plugin.
At the bottom of this entry is the embedded form (Flash version) of our product. We just rolled this out last week. We've shot over 50+ products over the past two years and with our new clients, we're adding more every week. If you have time, visit our "social" (Oooo, web 3.0) site, Product Story, to see our technology in all its glory. You can add comments and tag areas on products, just like would for a Google Map, but on a product. I do think the transition between the focus points is the coolest part. We can't rival Google for its super intuitive UI, but we can make it personal! The goal isn't to showcase Product Story as our main site-- it's just a way to get users familiar with our technology.
We also recently tested a touchscreen implementation of our technology. We're a while away from rolling it out in a kiosk form, but we're definitely excited about the possibilities.
So that's what our startup is about. We have a secret warehouse tucked away in the suburb of Burlingame that houses all our equipment. If you want us to shoot something (e.g. an artifact that you want to see in Free Form Rotation), let us know. The only thing we ask in return is for you to promote us. =) We like to get our hands on the newest products, so today's announcement of the 3G iPhone made us salivate.
Lastly, I haven't been writing much because I've been concentrating much of my spare time into the startup. However, we do have a blog, so if you're interested in learning more about our lives in Dotcom-land, check us out here. We live off of feedback, so if you think we can do better, let us know. Just don't make my nightmare come true. =)
I know I vowed to limit the shameless plugs on this blog, so I'll stop here. Thank you in advance for your support!
And if you're still reading all the way down here, thanks! You can also find our technology on this site.
